Starting Off

To begin making Scoubidous, you need to learn how to start them off. Starting is one of the easiest bits.

Round & Square Knot Start

Here is how to start off a normal scoubidou.

  1. Get two Scoubidou Strands

  2. Tie a knot in the centre of one. DO NOT PULL TIGHT. To centre it, you put your finger in the hole, and hold the ends so that they are even and pull tightish. Then slip it off your finger.

  3. Thread the other strand through the first and centre it by holding the ends and pulling tightish.

  4. Pull the first strands ends until tight.

  5. Do your first knot

Alternatively, you can put the first strands hole on a pencil and start it the same way, to create a loop.

Macramé Knot Start

Here is how to start the Macramé knot.

  1. Cut one strand in half.

  2. Fold one strand in half.

  3. Tie a start knot in the other strand, and centre it the same way as the normal start knot.

  4. Pull the start knot's ends tight.

  5. Tie your first Macramé Knot

Alternatively, if you want a Macramé Keyring, you can leave a loop in the folded strand, slip the knoted strand further down, and you will get a nice loop

Figure 8 Start

Here is how to start off the Figure 8 Knot.

  1. Cut one strand in half.

  2. Fold one half in half.

  3. Tie a knot in the END of one strand.

  4. Start weaving

Alternatively, like the Macramé, you can have a loop, by doing the same thing.
